FAQs

I always use my plastic bags to pick up the dogs poop when we are out walking. What are my alternatives?

I would suggest taking some old newspaper along when you go walking your dogs. There always seems to be as supply of this in the home. This way your hands are protected when cleaning up after them, the poop is freed up to biodegrade once it gets to the dumpsite, and you are not needing to keep a supply of plastic bags – therefore supporting less plastic, yay!

I use my old bags as bin liners, if I stop buying plastic shopping bags what will I use instead?

Tuffy makes a range of very thin biodegradable small bin liners for the kitchen. So at least when these end up in landfill they will not last so many hundreds/thousands of years.. Another option is not to use bin liners but simply tip the refuse into your bigger bin bags once full and then wash out the small bin container.

If you are saying do away with all plastic bags what will I use in my large bins to contain the rubbish I generate?

This is not the bag that I refer to in this campaign. Rethink The Bag is all about changing our mindset around our need for ‘single use plastic shopping bags’. Realistically we cannot do away with the thick black refuse bags, for now…
